Acupuncture

Acupucture originated in China a few thousand years ago. It is based on the concept that illness is caused by a disturbance in the balance and flow of the body’s energy, Chi or Qi. Chi is made up of two opposing energies, the Yang and the Yin. If these two energies are not in equilibrium then illness will occur. Chi flows up and down the body through channels known as meridians. Positioned along the meridians are special acupoints. During acupuncture fine needles are inserted into the skin at predetermined acupoints to help restore the flow of energy. The acupuncturist determines which acupoints to use through questions concerning the patient’s medical history, lifestyle and diet and through examination of the complexion of the skin, eyes and tongue and through pulse taking (Chinese style).
